NanoSyrinx CEO Joe Healey appointed to DSIT’s Engineering Biology Steering Group

In 2023, the UK Government published the “National Vision for Engineering Biology”. The report highlighted the ambitions of the UK to be a world leader in the Engineering Biology (a.k.a. Synthetic Biology) sector, and described how £2BN would be put to work over the next decade, cementing the UK’s position at the front of the pack.

Engineering Biology is one of the 5 key technology areas highlighted in Government industrial strategy as being a crucial enabling technology and sector for the future economy.

To ensure the assigned funding is deployed with the maximum possible impact for the sector, a Steering Group has also been established which will oversee the development of the Vision in the coming years.

The Steering Group includes academics, industry professionals, and the public sector with members from organisations such as AstraZeneca and Imperial College. To ensure that the voice of early stage biotech is also represented, several synthetic biology SME’s leadership are also members including our CEO Joe Healey.

We are looking forward to being able to contribute to the ongoing vision and making the UK a true Engineering Biology powerhouse.
